Case Study

Irrigation water in dry years: sell, buy or apply? A supplementary irrigated wheat scenario, Central West, NSW.

What is more profitable, sell, buy or apply water in dry years when crops have some bulk but lack the moisture to attain high yields of grain.

This case study uses information from the Central West Farming Systems managed site at Condobolin to assess three different scenarios. Harvesting grain, cutting hay for hay or selling water. The most profitable option depends on expected yield, the price of hay and the market price of water.
