Joseph Foley talks about automation of large scale irrigation

Joseph Foley from USQ talks about the focus on automation of large broad scale agriculture that is taking place as part of the Smarter Irrigation for Profit program (SIP2). There is always potential to improve the performance of any irrigation system, this project aims to embed good irrigation management in each and every irrigation event so that irrigation is optimised. Good irrigation always involves measurement and the use of models, with automation these are applied autonomously to ensure that the correct amount of irrigation is applied to the right depth, place and at the right time.
SIP2 brings together some of the best irrigation researchers in Australia, individuals who are passionate about working with producers across grains, rice, sugar, cotton and dairy to enhance irrigation performance.
