Growers and agronomists talk about the value they get from being able to attend local research trial sites. An important part of SIP2 has been local irrigation research sites, either on research stations or on farms. These sites present an opportunity for research to be conducted at a commercial scale, for growers to see the application of irrigation tools and technologies in their regions, and for interaction between growers and research representatives. This make the research relevant to the local climate and soil type. It also enables growers opportunities to see research at different times of the year and to talk with each other the learn about how irrigation can be adjusted locally to improve productivity and profitability.
