The GVIA Field day in February provided an opportunity for producers and consultants to hear about several of the SIP2 projects taking place across the region. The University of Southern Qld team of Malcolm Gillies and Joseph Foley presented on SISCO. The SISCO surface irrigation optimisation system can be utilised to help irrigators gain a better understanding of how to improve their irrigation systems or to automate furrow irrigation. With SISCOweb the information from water advance sensors is sent to the server, where the model analyses the infiltration information and sends the output either directly to the grower or direct to the automated irrigation system. SISCO developed by Malcolm Gillies at USQ, is unique as it is the only system available which can simulate, calibrate and optimise for a field at the same time.
