SIP2 are working with CottonInfo, University of Southern Qld, GVIA, Glenn Lyon, Padman Stops and St George Cotton Growers Craig Saunders and Lucas Wuersching to gain a better understanding of water use efficiency in an automated bankless channel tail water backup system. This season we have set up three bays in a field and we are measuring the water on and off this section of the field. We have also installed a number of water advance sensors and soil moisture sensors to gain a better understanding of the infiltration characteristics of the field. The information will be used to help Craig and Lucas improve each irrigation event. It will also help inform system design going forward.
For a taste of what’s to come, listen in to the CottonInfo podcast, where Brad Pfeffer talks with St George cotton growers Craig Saunders and Lucas Wuersching about their experience with bankless channel irrigation.
