Staged automation of irrigation in rice systems

Automation of irrigation can generate a positive return from labour savings alone (IRR of 9%) with water savings of up to 20% through reduced run-off and deep drainage. Implementation of a smart automated irrigation system can be staged over time. Developing the farm layout so automation can be added later is will significantly reduce future costs.
